A 37 year old, Sherry Hogshead matured Glen Elgin in Speyside.
Nose – Subtle sherry, and really oaky. Shows oak polish, ripe pears and a few cinnamon. Reasonably numerous eucalyptus honey as well. A hint of bubblegum within the background. Faint hints of burnt sugar. Nice and full of life for such an old malt with a luxurious charm.
Palate – Sherry again, but with a smoky, even very flippantly peated profile. Charred oak. Walnut skin and liquorice. Some toffee. Resinous, tannins and hints of mustard seeds. Bitter almonds as well.
Finish – Long, actually dry and relatively herbal.
