The contemporary edition of the most efficient selling Islay single malt, Laphroaig 10 year old which is a particularly full bodied Islay peated classic.
Nose: Sooty chinease five spice, boggy-earthy-iodine peat, chilli flake on seaweed, caramelised onions and curry powder fried in combination. A virtually meaty, tar or hemp like note.
Palate: Malty sweet peat with briney honey, chilli flake heat, white pepper on seaweed, more iodine, smoked ribs on a coastal bbq, five spice, smoked toffee and sooty aniseed.
Finish: Salty iodine, chilli flake and vanilla, earthy yet sweet, fish oils, black liquorice and lingering peat smoke.
Not the TCP peat monster i take into account that of old but still very much the marmite of the whisky world, other folks like it or hate it with equal measure. Make a decision for yourself by trying a really iconic single malt.
